Not Happy Jan

Flashback Friday

Friday, 20 March 2015

Brick-like paper directories may soon become a thing of the past, but we Australians sure will remember them fondly. Over the years they have faithfully served us as effective door stops and free footstools.

But arguably the most wonderful gift the Book has given us was on television. Let’s take a moment to appreciate some of the most memorable Yellow Pages campaigns.

Hello Yellow

Like a kiss without a squeeze and a one legged rocking chair, if it’s not the Yellow Pages, it’s not all there. That's the core message of this catchy 1986 campaign.

G-O-G-G-O Mobile

This ad was an amusing accent interpretation challenge without subtitles, featuring a Scottish man trying to fix his Goggomobil. The lovable lad became a celebrity in his own right, going on to play the character for a car insurance company.

Not Happy Jan

This TVC gave us this pearl of wisdom: if you miss the deadline for the Yellow Pages, heads are going to roll. 1999 was the year the Yellow Pages made every woman named Jan’s life a living hell. Sorry Jan.
